Michelle Paxton created and directs the Children’s Justice programs at the University of Nebraska College of Law. The Children’s Justice Clinic, founded in 2017, and the Children’s Justice Attorney Education Fellowship Program, founded in 2021, are partnerships between the College of Law and the Center on Children, Families, and the Law. Michelle’s work aims to improve outcomes for children and families through enhanced juvenile court advocacy that includes both a focus on complex interpersonal dynamics unique to juvenile jurisprudence and an understanding of case law and court processes. Professor Paxton teaches Juvenile Law, speaks and writes for national and regional child welfare forums, and supports community resources for children. Prior to her role as a professor, Michelle served as the Director of Legal Training at the University of Nebraska’s Center on Children, Families, and the Law, and worked as a Deputy County Attorney in Douglas and Lancaster Counties specializing in juvenile law. She received her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2002.
