Midlands Business Journal: A Legacy of Positive Business News

Veteran journalist Bob Hoig founded the Midlands Business Journal (MBJ) in Omaha in 1975. After 20 years covering crime and investigations for major outlets like UPI and the New York Daily News, Hoig saw a need for a different kind of business journalism in the Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs area. Instead of focusing on negativity, the MBJ would highlight the success stories of local businesses and entrepreneurs, providing a refreshing and informative voice in the community.
This unique approach proved successful. The newspapers further cemented their commitment to recognizing achievement by launching the annual "40 Under 40 Awards" in 2002, honoring hundreds of outstanding young professionals in the region.
Bob Hoig attributed the MBJ's growth to his team's passion for understanding and showcasing the region's economic opportunities. His legacy of positive business reporting continues today. Following his passing in 2019, his daughter Andrea Hoig took over as Publisher & CEO in 2020, ensuring the MBJ remains a vital source of business news for the Midlands.
